I purchased this fabric in Germany.  I loved it.  It is brown, beige and orange.  A bit “funky”, but the pants look great on Nicolas.  I have gotten alot of compliments.

This is the same pattern as the orange jeans.  I increased the sizing to 86.  This helped alot.  The length is perfect now.  I also avoided the Ottobre waistband method, and opted instead of one line of topstitching on the elastic, and the other two beneath the elastic.  I copied this from a pair of RTW pants that my mom purchased for him in Germany.

DSCF00722.JPGThis was my first attempt to make something from the Ottobre magazine.  I was stunned how good these pants looked, after several women in the Ottobre group posted pictures of their work.  They are all so creative, and some of the ideas  and different ways of putting the fabric together are so great, that I had to start with this pattern.

It was easy to make and easy to read the directions.  The only difficult part was the elastic waistband.  This was my second attempt, and it still did not turn out perfect.  The elastic stretches the more you sew on it.  It grows with every line of stitching, so that in the end it is way too big.  Oh well, it worked out, so there was no need for a third go around.

A note to myself:  Next time use size 86 and make the pants a bit longer.  Either my son is growing, which could very well be, or they shrink with every wash.
